Frontier Music Magazine 

Frontier has an exclusive interview with music’s dynamic new face, Fay Stone, she talks about her explosive new album Break Away, she talks about 2010 and about where she wants to go from here. 


The next Kylie Minogue is an accolade not given out without raw talent shining through, and that is what many people believe young Fay Stone has. Young Fay Stone, 20, from Beverley, East Yorkshire, burst onto the music scene in early 2010 with her number one smash hit “It wasn’t my fault, it was yours” has taken the world of music by storm. Winner of MTV female newcomer of the year award among many other accolades has been planning her 2011 multi- country tour. Her album Break Away stormed its way to number one like Band Aid did at Christmas in 1984. Yes, it was that damn good. You may find it difficult but she was just an average girl a year ago growing up in her sleepy little town. But when given an opportunity she grabbed it by the horns and has now recently signed a contract with Badardicardi Music label reportedly worth over £2 million. Her story is quite remarkable and shows that if you work at it hard enough every little girl can achieve their dream. Who knows maybe in the future someone will want to be the next Fay Stone!

We have been trying to get hold of Britain’s new big talent for weeks now since the release of her number one album and finally Fay Stone has agreed to sit down with Frontier magazine for a general chat. 

Frontier arrives at Fay’s house before she gets there; she has been on a busy schedule and has just been in a recording studio with her manager, she finally arrives at about 4:30. 

So Fay, finally we get to meet and talk

“I know I’m sorry, god I’ve just been so busy but hey we’re here now and I’m ready”


Excellent, well 2010 has been a truly incredible year for you could you ever imagine this happening?

“I can hardly believe it, I never saw this happening too me. Ever since I was a little girl, when I was growing up I would sit there every Thursday night and watch Top of the Pops and dream of becoming a singer. Not in my wildest dreams though have I got a number one album. Words cannot describe how I feel every single day.


Baring that in mind, we sit here in December just a small amount of months after you burst onto the scene and you seem to have the music world bowing at your feet.

She interrupts me there and says “Bowing” (laughing) “well I wouldn’t quite go that far, I see myself as that modest muddy brown eyed girl from down the road. I’m just Fay, regular, average everyday Fay.”


Well you certainly are quite a talent, that’s for sure, did you ever imagine Aimee becoming a hit in the manner it has?

“Wow, err no I guess I didn’t, my producer was telling me that it was looking better every day but I never even considered becoming number one against such amazing artist, such as Rihanna and Tinnie Tempah. Such amazing singers as them have been in the same charts as little me, it’s quite over-whelming.”


You mentioned Rihanna and Tinnie Tempah, have you considered doing a duet with another artist?

“Bruno Mars! Aww I love him ‘Just the way you are’ is soooo amazing, whenever it comes on the radio I like to pretend he’s singing it to me, he’s just so lovely, I met him at the MTV awards as well last month and he is genuinely a nice guy as well. It’s so good to meet someone like that."


Finally where do you see yourself in 5 years time?

“Well my number one fear is becoming another one hit wonder so I hope to still be up there making music that people love, and most importantly enjoying my life”

Magazine layouts: Front cover, contents page and double spread article

For my front cover I have aimed it to have a lot going on my front cover to intrigue my audience when they take the first glance at the cover. For starters I have included perks to my magazine such as; PLUS column where it will include a band section in my magazine, winning festival tickets, 100 best songs of 2010, things we should be looking out for in 2011 and articles about other artist. I have included a lot but in my opinion when I read magazines, the front cover is what interests me the most by what's happening in this week's article and what kind of variety as well. This makes me want to buy it and read more into it. 

My featured artist is placed infront of the name of the magazine to show that she is important and  my magazine is lucky to have an interview with her. I have learnt this from other magazines and in my opinion it shows good photoshop skills. I intend to have mid-body shot for my front cover and my artist to lead forward to show that she is confident and my audience can view her body language up close.

I have also included the date, the issue number and bar code to make my magazine look realistic and professional. 

For my contents page, I have included a lot going on on this page, so my readers could have a seek peek in the store before purchasing the magazine. This because I think the more pictures will intrigue my audience by giving my audience a better look of what's happening in this week's issue. I have included an Editors note in to give my audience an insight on the thoughts and feeling of the one who makes this magazine work. 

For my double spread article I am including about four photo, one photo is the main one by taking up half the page and the others are a photo strip. I have not yet decided on a heading yet, but I know it will be bold and at the top of the second page of the double spread. I have chosen the right side for my text to be presented in because in my opinion I find it easier to read that side whilst scheme reading through magazine, since its more eye catching. For my text I have decided to start of my article with a huge T because it looks professional and more journalistic. Also I have included the page number at the side but not on the left sign since the main photo is there. This because as I was saying before the right side is the side more readers will look at and it will indicate my reader what page it is. On the left side of my double spread I will be including a quote from my featured artist beside the main photo. I have also included a thin strip indicating my readers this is the FAY STONE article and Cover Star at the top left corner, as well indicating my readers its the featured artist on the front cover. I chose this because it looks professional and I would know this is the main article.

I am pleased with all my layouts for my magazine and I am confident this shall look good when its come to designing the piece of work. 

Equipment and technology

For my magazine I want to make magazine to look as professional as possible, by doing this I have to use certain equipment and technology.

• I will be using a camera to take photos in and outside college.
• I will be using my own camera because it has 12.2. mega pixels and I would benefit by using my own camera since I wont be on a waiting list for the college cameras. 

• Using different lights to enhance the best possible photos. The lighting will be used for my front cover shots. 

• Using In Design in order to make my magazine. e.g Front cover, contents page, and double spread article. 

• Using Photoshop to cut out pictures proficiently. I will be using this for my front cover photos, and the others for touching them up with the lighting and shadowing. 

Moodboard

I have created myself a moodboard so I can reflect on my ideas towards my music magazine. As you can see I have chosen an pop genre for my music magazine, this is to help enhance my pop genre music magazine by deciding what colours, types of font, logos, props, and styles of fashion. My mood board is brightly coloured so it represents a pop genre, by using colours such as blue, yellow, red, and green.

I have included pop artists in my moodboard because I particular like the way they look, by looking quirky and unusual from other pop artists. I have chosen a variety of pop artists to represent my pop genre mood board, this is because their uniqueness is their trade mark. I chose Rihanna because her new red hair style is an statement and this could possibly to with something about how she feels towards love. Also her hair style could be telling us that she wants to be different from all the rest of the artists by being proud of her race and stating that any look will suit her.  Lady Gaga and Katy Perry dress unusual because its their trade mark of being different from all other artists. They both wear brightly colours and astonishing outfits to represent their personality. I chosen Florence and the machine in my mood board because what stuck me, was the glitter in her hands, which can also be used as prop to represent that her music is magical and different from the usual  pop music of today. I will be including an outfit that will stand out from the front cover of my magazine. I need to choose a style for my featured to lure my audience to buy my magazine, I am thinking of using the colour different colours that could make a statement in my magazine, such as green, red, yellow and blue for my artist to wear.

I have chosen two artist that are well known all over the world, Madonna and Michael Jackson, this because they are icons to other artists. Madonna has aspired other artists to wear her famous cone bra and Michael Jackson has aspired others to wear an military jacket but glam it up so it fills the description of a pop genre. For my photo I might use a piece of clothing that looks iconic to my audience.

I have used magazine logos to give myself ideas on what my fonts should look like in my own magazine, I aim to use a big bold letters with an modern feel to it. As you can see, Top of the Pops portrays a pop genre to it and has a symbol to represent its trade mark to the public. I aim to go for a modern feel to my fonts for my magazine in the future.

If you can see at the bottom, I have picked out of a magazine, an evolution of female pop artists, because it shows us that other artists are inspired by previous artist and that there is a link to decades of pop music; with each artist having similarities to one another.

Name of Magazine and choice of font.

I aim for a font that is bold and catches the eye of my audience, since my magazine is a pop genre I aim for modern theme and not mimicking Top of the Pops. 


I have come up with a magazine name to represent my pop genre music magazine; my magazine name is FRONTIER. I have chosen this name because the name is referring to areas beyond the boundary, which means that my magazine is not selling the image of Top of the Pops, but advertising to an audience aged between 15 - 25. The reason I chose FRONTIER as a magazine name is because I think it represents of being forward and pushing the boundaries by not following the rules. This what I thought straight away when I come across this name, I was going to pick Shuffle as a magazine name but I preferred the sound of FRONTIER because it does not sound like tacky but bold and upfront. Shuffle was a good name which presented music but I was not sure if it would appeal to an audience. 


I have chosen my colour scheme to be red, black, grey and white. For my font I have chosen red and that should be on a white background so it blends in well. If I choose black ground then a red font will not be permitted, I will have to think of another colour in the future, this depends on how well my image of the artist is presented. i.e. choice of colour for my artist. For a red font I aim it to have an shadow affect or have a border around my lettering, possibly with another colour. For my magazine I intend to place my artist's image infront of the name of my magazine to show that the artist is really important to my readers. By doing this I have to have a big font size that is bold and top of the magazine, which fills the along the entire magazine width.
However I have now realised that I should include more colours instead of red, black, grey and white because I aiming for a pop genre. Since I posted a post about my mood board it made me realise the more colour I include will have an effect on my readers. I will be including blue, pinks, greens, and yellows in my magazine. I am thinking of pink or blue for the colour of the name of the magazine on the front cover, because yellow and green would not appeal to my audience; I need a colour that will stand out on a white background. Blue and pink are pop genre colours and I think they would suit my magazine. 

I have highlighted the paragraph to show that I will not be using this colour however the background parts I talk about is what I will be thinking about in the future when I come to designing  my magazine. The pink writing is where I will not be considering and the red writing is where I will be taking into account.  

For my name I chose a variety of names and asked various people, the biggest number of votes was between two names; FRONTIER and SHUFFLE for a pop genre music magazine. I researched the definition behind the two names and FRONTIER fitted my ideal sort of genre. (not top of the pops). Shuffle was strong choice of word because it represented music of any genre, however I was aiming for a word that could make my readers think, 'why was the name chosen' 'its bold and a statement' This is why I preferred the name FRONTIER than the word shuffle because well suited to how I feel towards my magazine. 

As you can see the Harabara font is the most popular font that is going to be used for my font for the name of my magazine. I chose this font because it could represent a pop genre, as you can see I chose a variety of font to comply with a pop genre. I think the Harabara is a modern and simple font which is well suited to a pop genre magazine. I know now that the simpler the magazine is presented the more people are willing to buy and read my magazine in the future. 

Research Feedback

Well done, Aimee - you have worked really hard at this over the last week and have some proficient research here. Some lovely use of different ways of presenting your information. Found an institution to produce and distribute your product.

For my magazine publisher I have chosen IPC media because they have produced many well known magazines and this company should invest well in my magazine. IPC Media produces over 85 iconic media brands, with their print brands alone reaching almost two thirds of UK women and 44% of UK men –almost 27 million UK adults – while they have online brands collectively which reach 20 million users every month. 

ICP media follow a certain way so they can find out their target audience, this is by focusing on three core audiences. ICP media would boost my magazine popularity because they would find a particular target audience by IPC's diverse print and digital portfolio which offers something for everyone by them focusing on three core audiences: men, mass market women and upmarket women. IPC would choose an upmarket women audience because my magazine would include confidence, selective and exacting in all they do, mass women have a wide variety of interests. My magazine is also for an audience that are constantly juggling tasks, and then for my women audience to take pleasure in occasional ‘me’ time, during which relaxing with a favourite magazine or visiting an inspirational website is a ‘must-do’.  ICP would have my magazine in a glossy cover and pages within my magazine this is to interest my women audience. 

ICP would research how to publish my music magazine to see what are my target audiences' needs and wants. They would reasearch how to advertise to my mass women audience. I would like my magazine to be monthly because then my target audience would have a month to get their magazine and it would go to waste unlike weekly magazines. 
ICP publishes NME magazine, as we know NME is a successful music magazine, so if ICP can make NME a popular magazine for many music readers then ICP could make my magazine as popular. This because my magazine has a different genre and target audience therefore I would not be competing against NME for their target audience since there target audience is male, however I would be competing for popularity.

The magazine article is written out informally because its trying to appeal to its audience. In my opinion the magazine is avoiding to be written out formal because it would sound like an newspaper so Kerrang magazine has attempted a different approach to their readers. Kerrang uses swear words from Craig Owens because they want the interview to be not formal and bore their target audience.

For my magazine I intend to enlargen the first letter so I look professional to my audience. I intend to aim for an informal and formal written article to enhance my popularity of my magazine, by having a wider range of audience, such as women and girls in their teens. I also intend to set my article in columns because its easier for the reader to scan read before taking in the information of the article.

Preliminary Task

In my preliminary task I will be taking a photo of a student for my front cover. My shot shall be a median-close up with a storyline and a header of that student, so this will be advertising their trade mark. Also I will need to do a mock up a two page article spread and a contents page.

For my preliminary task my front cover is about advertising a certain school events and news. As you can see I have related my contents page as much as possible to my front cover by having on the cover contents.

For my front cover I tried hard to cut around the image and placing it on a black background because it hides away the bits that were unfortunately not cut out; since it shown up a lot on my white background.

I have chosen two different fonts for my front cover, one for the name of the magazine and the other for feature articles. I chose a bold white title for the name of my magazine because it shown up well on the black background. I chose the font to be Base 05 because it look appealing to a young audience, (teenager) . For the feature article titles I chosen a font that could relate to the name of the magazine, however I wanted to change the colour to red so it was different from the colour white. In this case I found out that using red, did not show up well on a black background, so I used a red outline for my font while the font remained white. My text boxes are transparent so they didn't cover my image of the main featured article. 

In my real magazine I will include a bar code, a issue number and date in the future since I had forgotten to include this in my preliminary.

The preliminary task for my front cover has been useful because I am impressed with my front cover and I was able to use photoshop and indesign programs; my front cover looks appeal to my young audience.

For my contents page, I have looked into various amount of other contents pages and thought about what I may include in my preliminary contents page. I have found out that using a variety of contents, such news, quiz's, win prizes column, an editors comment box, can entertain your audience more. I have included a seek peek of what's next weeks issue to look like, to influence my audience to buy next week issue. To grab your audience's attention, you have to research what their needs and wants are , by doing this you can enhance it by displaying it in the contents pages. A contents page should include images to give the audience a taster of what they expect in the magazine, having a couple of images can make it look appealing if they include the right sort of images by having bright colours. My contents page should either have a white or black background, if black then a white font writing should be used, but if white then black font instead.

For genre I have to make sure that my chosen genre of music, which is pop is actually popular and appeals to its target audience I did some research and found the figures for music magazine sales in the year 2009.

In my research I have found out that Top of the Pops magazine is the most popular pop genre magazine for readers in 2009. However when I had a look at this website, I found out that sales for all types of genre magazines have decreased alot since 2005, this could be due to the conveince of the internet to their public. I think Top of the Pops is the most popular music magazine because it has much larger audience, by being young girls. The Top of Pops is not just a music magazine but it has quiz's, informs you of new hairstyles, and features teen pop stars so its more appealing to their audience, etc. The magazine provides more of a young girl magazine image than a music magazine however still providing what artist is popular at the moment. I think I should aim for an audience that is for maturer teenager girls and also women in their 20s. In my opinion I don't think Top of Pops would appeal to me or my type of audience. 

Q magazine and NME are both similar magazines but however Q seems more popular than NME magazine. I think this because Q has wider range of audience because they do not stick one genre of music, such as indie music like NME, therefore more stereotypes of people would be interested in reading a range of music genre magazines. I think I should aim for a range of music magazine but maintaining a strong pop genre in my magazine. If I was going to a range of music, I would be featuring alternative music such as indie for example, this shall be on my front cover and contents page however featuring a pop artist for my main article.

I think this would appeal to my publisher because my magazine is a pop genre but not aiming for a girly audience, therefore my magazine would be maintaining more of a maturer image to my audience. This could increase sales since there are not many magazines that are a pop genre and is aimed at teenage girls and women who are in their 20s.

This questionnaire is to fully understand what type of target audience. When I have my completed questionnaires,  their answers can help me make my magazine suitable for my customer's needs and wants.

This is one of my completed questionnaires, I am going to use this one for an example because I am aiming at a woman audience. I made 10 questionnaires for each individual i chose 5 boys and 5 girls so I had a fair result. I also chose two women and men who are in their 30s to find out what  age prefers a type of genre of music. 


I found out that most boys prefer an indie or alternative music genre while the others prefer pop and rock music. This signal me that I should not aim my target audience at male audience. I found out that the most girls prefer a pop and R&B genre while the minority prefer an indie genre. 


For question 5 I found out that most of my applicants prefer todays music than older music, therefore I shall be doing current music of today for my audience in my magazine. I have chosen a pop genre for my music magazine, this should be involving current music. 


I will be setting my magazine price at £2-3 because I intend my magazine to have a glossy cover and pages within the magazine, so this will not have a cheap tacky look to my target audience, when they are viewing my magazine. I have set my magazine at this price, because it should pay for the cost of that type of paper (glossy) I want for my magazine. 

Target Audience for My Magazine

For my magazine I have to find a target audience, by doing this I will have to use GRASS. This shall help me to look into more detail at demographic and psychographic profiling techiques. The genre of my music magazine is pop.

Gender-  For my magazine I aim it to be at a women audience because I feel that a women audience will buy the a pop genre magazine, this shall make my magazine more profitable. I also think that using female artist will make women read my magazine because they would look up to female artist as a role model than male artist. Magazines like NME, Blender and Q have featured female artist and I become more interested in their articles than the male artist and bands.

Race- In my opinion I think pop music is aimed at white people because R&B is aimed at a Black audience. For my magazine I want it to be aimed at all races therefore I shall be adding R&B features in my contents page and on the front cover to protray that my magazine is not only aimed at white but all ethics. I shall be mixing R&B and pop together, this is just to show my audience that my magazine is about current music of today, since R&B and pop are in the top 40. This indicates that my magazine is for all ethics. 

Age- For my pop magazine, I am aiming to ages of 15-25. I think these are the ages as young as 14 is where most people start really getting into their certain genre of music whichever genre it happens to be. I want my magazine to be aimed at teenagers as well as adults because I feel that it shall be making more profit. I also think that people are mostly likely to attend concerts at those age boundaries. 

Socio economic status- For my magazine I am aiming for an B-D socio- economic scale. I think my teenage audience is well suited to C2-D groups of the scaling because they do not earn wage and are dependant on their parents when buying things till they start working themselves. I also think group B is suited to my magazine because they would like to know what's going on in today's music industry.

For instruments many artists uses microphones as their only 'instrument' while they could have a back band or singers to enhance their performance. This because they are singers and use only a microphone for their concerts. Some artists can play the piano like Elton John and still at the same time; this would be their alternative instrument for some artists.

Unique Selling Point (USP)

For my magazine I will make my USP to attract an new audiences by including artists or bands that relate to a pop genres, this shall be aimed primary target audience. I want to make my magazine for all genders because I want a wide range of audience but keep a classy style for the women readers. I think women readers would have a bigger impact on the magazine because they would be willing to read the article of the featured artist on the front cover.  I have chosen a Pop genre but I aim not to make it look tacky by using bold and striking titles and professional looking pictures. By doing this, it shall stand out from the rest of the magazines and compete against popular music magazines such as NME, Q and Mojo.


Another USP is that it appeals to a younger audience such as teenagers because I intend to make my magazine to look exciting but interesting. I shall be doing this by strong shots of photo and poses from my artist, I intend to take a median shot to show the emotion of my artist so my readers connect, and I want my artist to look straight in view of the camera to enhance that emotion. 

Discussed the conventions of a music magazine

The Front Cover

The magazine cover is from Q magazine, I have chosen this front cover because it is similar to the genre I have chosen (Pop). The magazine cover has 4 headline features to make sure that it appeals to their readers so they maintain their target audience. 
Q magazine is usually a magazine that only interviews bands and stereotyping one genre; rock music, however in this issue they involve a pop genre by using Lady Gaga as their main feature. I find the Lady Gaga issue appealing because it is trying to aim to other target audiences, such as pop culture. The magazine has used Lady Gaga as their main feature because she is an unique kind artist by her unusual costumes and numerous number one hits. Lady Gaga is popular with the audience, therefore Q used her as an iconic symbol of Pop music today. Lady Gaga is posing half naked but with only her arm covering her breasts and leather spiky pants, this is to show that she is body confident about her pose.
Her image has inspired me to do a shot where my artist shall be leading forward to give that connection with the audience, so this will catch their eyes from all of the other magazine. I intend to do a median- close of the face because it can signal what emotion they are feeling to their interview. I would like to do my photo with highlights and shadows of the artist because I want my artist to stand out before the titles hit the eyes of the customers.

I particular like the main title because it is bold and stands in front of Lady Gaga's pose as well as behind her and I find it really unusual but professional at the same time. They use world exclusive to make it appeal as a one off interview and strikes the readers attention. Underneath the world exclusive box, states that one of most popular artist (Madonna) is being replaced by a new stronger artist (Lady Gaga) to make the reader's interest to grow.

Q magazine uses a slogan at the top of cover that it the UK's biggest music magazine, this is to ensure the customers that they are reading Thee Biggest Music Magazine.
Q magazine keeps to a certain colour scheme by wanting to keep it a very basic style to their readers. They use greys, blacks, whites and red because grey is easy to digest to other colours, the grey is used as a background and I think it highlights Lady Gaga's shot very good. I would like to use the same colour however use them differently by using a white background to highlight the shot of my artist.
For the features of the magazine I have noticed that they have used words like 'shocking', 'hell' and 'world's exclusive' because Q magazine wants to make their readers feel important by entertaining them with meaningful words to appeal to their target audience. I am thinking of words that shall attract my audience, and I am also thinking of placing a quote from the artist's interview on the front cover to send a buzz to my target audience.
The Contents Page

   

   

I have chosen these two contents pages because they are similar genre however they have different layouts for their content pages. Many magazine use the content page as the very first page in their magazine, this to appeal to their readers because determines what the reader is looking for; therefore the magazine would be showing the most important and popular bits, this to ensure sales and entertain more readers.

I will be doing my contents page where I will have features in bold letters to show what are the best articles in this week's issue. This should catch my reading audience when they open the first page. I want to split it up contents in sections so my readers why it easy to find what they are looking for. I think it would be best to present my contents page on a white background to attract readers into possible subscribing. I aim that the colour scheme from the front cover will remain consistent on the contents page.

Double Spread Article

I have chose this double spread article because it bold and jumps of the page for the readers. The article is presented with a bold font quote from Lily Allen interview. This shows that it’s related and also Lily Allen’s name is also in this style which makes it stand out from the surrounding text. I am thinking of going for a different font than the Lily Allen article because I don't want my font to take up the majority of the double spread, therefore I want more of detailed article for my readers.

The background is white therefore it highlights Lily Allen's shot and pose. I would use white as a background because it easy to digest with other objects and colours and this indicates that the reader's attention is on the text and the picture.
I think A double page spread could consist of anything such as: 

Interview, Music news, Music charts/Downloads, Fashion page, Main cover story, Poster, Album reviews, Confessions, 'Next issue' page, etc.

This because I think my readers deserve a variety in what they are reading therefore making the article more interesting to read. 

• 
  Lily Allen's clothes match the colour scheme of the feature, her tartan shirt shows masculinity and that she is more masculine than feminine. She's stood with her hands on her hips, however her wrists are pointing up to show the reader her tattoo. This shows her to be quite rebellious. She is looking directly at the reader connoting that she's strong and demanding attention.
  The article is layout in columns so make it more easier to read by scanning the page before absorbing the information.

I have found out that pop music is the most popular music genre however all these pop genres have their unique style to their songs . Also they all have a certain fashion they must follow, by particular clothes they wear to enhance their style of music. Katy Perry for example would wear a range of vibrate colours, because she has a unique style to her pop genre. The top 40 has number ones from months ago, still in the top 40 because the music is still very popular to the public. I found out that a remake or remix of the same song can make an in-pack to the music business, such as Ellie Goulding's version to Elton John's 'Your Song'. This is because the public enjoy their old time favourites songs but sung by todays artists.

I think this is useful because it gives me an idea of what I should be looking for, the more I research the more I know what type of genre I shall be using in my magazine. Ellie Goulding has inspired me to take a low tone of pop, by using natural colours such as greys, whites and blacks because it would well with my settings and background in the pictures.

The top 40 can have any type of genre but the most popular is pop, however indie rock such as Kings of Leon can be in the top 40 sometimes. The chart music usually prefers music that have a beat to such as Rihanna and her single 'Only Girl' but I prefer a softer artist that doesn't repeat the lyrics over and over again. People would be willing to buy a magazine that has a story to the artist's name. When the artist has a number one they are the most recognised played song, therefore they would bring profit to the magazine because of their number one hit is advertising big profit.


I have chosen a pop genre for my magazine because it is the most popular genre in the music business today. I will be aiming my magazine at a pop culture basis by presenting it with colour scheme similar to a rock genre however including pop genre for my magazine. This is to make my magazine look professional and classy to it's audience. I intend that costume of the artist will be bold to enhance my pop genre in the magazine, this is to create an audience.

Initial Ideas

For my music magazine I have either chosen two genres but I am not sure which one to choose. I have chosen an Indie genre and current music genre by involving a range of genres such as: rap, R&B, pop, rock. My inspiration magazine is NME because it involves a range of music genres to satisfy all readers. NME is a well known magazine and this could help me to develop a similar style of magazine however with my own style that initials this is my own design and magazine. For an Indie genre, this can only satisfy a certain number of readers even though I would throughly enjoy this type of genre. I will be picking a colour scheme for my magazine that will be strong and bold.

 


If I was going to a current music (Pop) magazine, I would research more into Q magazine because this can give me numerous ideas for what I need to present in my music magazine. Also I would combined my research with NME magazine since it has a range of music. Another magazine which I could see helpful is the Top of the Pops magazine because it provides a pop genre and I would like enhance that pop genre to be more of an adult style magazine.

If I was going to do a Indie music magazine, I would choose colours such as a red, white, black, grey, green and a baby blue because they are well suited to this music genre.

For my the front cover I would present with a bold title and the artist or band would have a median-close up of their face or their body leaning forward to give that connection with the audience.

The reason why I picked this front cover in  my initial ideas post is because the magazine vibe is an R&B genre and I find it useful by the strong colour scheme. I have found out that most magazine prefer this colour scheme because it is bold and eye striking to the readers. This would catch the readers attention straight away, so I have chosen a red, grey, white and black colour scheme because it can represent all genres with this type of colour scheme. I would like to present my artist or band by having either a black or white background, because it highlight the person on the front cover by being more vibrate. 

For my contents page I would have my page numbers in order so my reader is not confused when finding the article they want to read. For my contents page I will have a median-close up shot of the my artist or band, this picture will be different from the rest of the pictures because it will be a still life and plain. My colour scheme will be the same through out the whole magazine by using colours like red, black, white and grey. This because I find them to be strong vibrate colours, which can stand out from the rest of the magazines.

For my double page featured article I would  be interviewing either the artist or band and see how they got on their recent tour. I will have only 3 to 4 pictures of the artist or band in my article, all picture will have different settings or background. My pictures will have one close up, and the rest of the picture will be shot where you can see all of their bodies. This is to show their body language to the camera and how they would behave in an interview. I am hoping for my pictures I can get interesting backgrounds, such as outside photos and vintage room, involving old furniture. For my article I would like to enlarge the first letter of the interview because I find it very professional. I intend the style of writing to be times new roman font because many magazine use this type of font and it looks classy. I intend that my paragraphing is in columns and I will be enlarging quotes of whats said in the interview to give a realistic feel to my magazine. And i will stick to the red , black and grey colour scheme.

Introduction: 1st post

I am Aimee Alty. and I am 17 years old. I am doing media AS and I have chosen the print project. This is because I have a big interest in music and I would like to express my interest by displaying it in a magazine. I would be doing a front cover, a contents page and two page article. At moment I am not sure which genre of music I shall be doing.
